Did you know that there is a time of the year when Russia refuses to go completely dark?

As summer approaches, something magical happens in the north. The sun sets, but the sky never really turns dark. A soft, golden twilight lingers through the night, the streets stay alive, and in Saint Petersburg, you can find yourself wandering beside the Neva long after midnight without ever feeling like it is truly night.

Welcome to the White Nights of Russia.

It is one of those travel experiences that photographs can never quite capture. You have to be there. And that is exactly when we want you to discover Russia.

We begin in Moscow, where grand architecture, centuries of history and modern Russian energy come together in one extraordinary city.

Picture yourself standing in the middle of Red Square, surrounded by some of Russia’s most iconic landmarks. Walk through the magnificent GUM, take in the grandeur of Moscow’s historic centre, and see the city from above as you ride the Moscow Cable Car.

Look up at the imposing Moscow State University, one of the city’s legendary landmarks. As evening falls, step aboard the Radisson River Cruise and watch Moscow light up along the banks of the river.

And because Russia’s culture is about more than monuments and architecture, there is also the spectacular world of the Russian circus, an art form that has captivated audiences for generations.

Then we head to Saint Petersburg, often called the Venice of the North.

A city of grand palaces, elegant canals, magnificent bridges and breathtaking architecture. But come here during the White Nights and Saint Petersburg transforms completely. The city barely sleeps!

Cafés stay busy. Streets fill with people. Music spills into the night. Locals and travellers gather along the rivers, making the most of those summer evenings when darkness never quite arrives.

And then comes one of Saint Petersburg’s most unforgettable spectacles. The bridges open. In the middle of the night, enormous drawbridges rise over the Neva River to let ships pass through. People gather along the embankments to watch, while above them, the sky glows with the last traces of daylight.

It is one of those moments when you simply stop and think, How is this real?

Saint Petersburg is also the cultural heart of Russia, home to treasures such as the magnificent Hermitage Museum and the historic Peter and Paul Fortress. The city has been shaped by a remarkable theatrical tradition too, with the legendary Mariinsky Theatre in Saint Petersburg and the iconic Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow among the country’s most celebrated cultural institutions.

And then there is ballet! Russian ballet has become synonymous with grace, discipline and artistic excellence. Watching a performance in the country that gave the world some of its greatest ballet traditions can feel almost otherworldly.

This is not just a journey to Moscow and Saint Petersburg. It is Russia at a completely different time of the year. It is Red Square under the evening sky. A river cruise as Moscow begins to glow. Wandering through Saint Petersburg at midnight and wondering why the sun has not disappeared. Bridges rising over the Neva, music drifting through the streets and a city that seems determined not to sleep.

This is Russia Under the White Nights. And once you experience it, you may never look at summer nights quite the same way again.
