Chakrata trip is a much-needed getaway for those who are looking for a short weekend break from busy city life, want to relax in the mountains in a close-to-nature resort with mesmerizing views, and have their share of adrenaline rush!

The magical town of Chakrata is an offbeat Himalayan destination accessible from Delhi or located at a distance of 90 km from Dehradun in the state of Uttarakhand. Located at an altitude of 7000 feet, the mesmerizing town of Chakrata offers breathtaking views of multiple Himalayan ranges. Surrounded by thick deodar forests, blessed with beautiful Himalayan birds, winding roads, frozen lakes in winter, waterfalls, picturesque sceneries, green meadows, vast grasslands, and the fresh air of Chakrata makes it an amazing destination for a short and sweet weekend getaway.

It also surprises visitors with some of the natural wonders which nature has bestowed upon Chakrata such as a vast plateau known as Chirimiri neck at the peak of a mountain, and an unbelievable limestone cave named as Budher Cave.

Chakrata is a cantonment town, and it was developed by British Rulers to be mostly used as a summer retreat for the high level executives of East India Company. Chakrata is also a part of Jaunsar-Bawar region which is inhabited by Jaunsari Tribe.

Trip Highlights

1. Resort Stay

We are going to stay in a resort set-up in a scenic location offering picturesque views of mountains and valleys. We will have comfortable rooms with huge windows to ourselves, equipped with all modern amenities. Our stay will be towards the peaceful side of the town enabling us to soak ourselves completely in nature.’

2. Tiger Falls

Tiger Falls is one of the mightiest waterfalls in Uttarakhand which falls from a 312 feet high cliff with a roaring sound, and ultimately making a beautiful emerald green crystal clear water pool. It’s a very refreshing and close-to-nature experience to visit Tiger Falls. You are allowed to take a bath in the pool formed by waterfalls. There is a very short trek (almost 1 km) which leads us to Tiger Falls.

3. Village Walk

What are your thoughts on taking a laid-back village walk in Chakrata? We get to witness the traditional Jaunsari houses, witness the slow village life, and get lost in the simple beauty. The purpose of this activity is to allow people just to deviate a bit from the touristy Chakrata itineraries and try something different. Village Walk also gives an opportunity to click some unique pictures of traditional houses and little more.

4. Chilmiri Plateau

Chilmiri Plateau, also known as Chirmiri Neck, offers the most breathtaking sunset and sunrise in Chakrata. It’s a very vast plateau surrounded by thick lush green deodar forests. Would you believe if we tell you that Chilmiri Plateau is actually located on the top of a mountain peak, which is one of the highest peaks in Chakrata? Chilmiri neck also offers magnificent views of a few famous mountain peaks such as Bandarpoonch, Rohini, and Swarg Peaks.

5. Moila Bugyal

Moila Bugyal is a beautiful meadow that surprises visitors with lovely attractions. It’s home to the astonishing limestone cave known as Budher Cave, a beautiful wooden temple named Pari ka Mandir and a Natural Water Lake. Moila Bugyal area can be navigated by doing a 6 km trek that starts from Lokhandi and surprises people with beautiful forest areas and meadows. It was named after a German explorer who discovered this area.

6. Pari ka Mandir

Pari ka Mandir is another beautiful attraction that can be visited during Moila Bugyal Trek. Set amidst the beautiful meadows, it’s a small wooden temple with traditional pahadi architecture. It’s a mythological temple and as per locals, only pariyan (fairies) or highly proven priests can worship here.

7. Budher Cave

Budher Cave falls nearby Moila Top. It’s a wondrous limestone cave that is believed to be built by Pandavas during their exile period. It has brilliant stalagmite and stalactite formations. The cave is 150 meters long, having a very narrow entrance but becomes pretty huge once you navigate through it. It’s a perfect caving opportunity in the Himalayas for adrenaline junkies.

8. Natural Water Lake

Natural Water Lake is another attraction that can be witnessed and enjoyed while trekking the Moila Bugyal area. The lake becomes like icing on the cake while enjoying the beautiful meadows and the forest area.

9. Chakrata Market

Chakrata Market is a beautiful pahadi market, which must be visited if we are in Chakrata. We will enjoy visiting some quaint shops, have a look at unique souvenirs, buy some beans, try some local food, and have chai at a “chai ki tapri”.

Your Itinerary

Day 1: Departure from Delhi to Chakrata

Meet the entire group and group leader for introduction and orientation in Delhi. We will board a vehicle (Innova/ Force Traveler) exclusively booked for our group for our overnight journey to Chakrata.

We will start at 11 PM from ISBT Kashmere Gate. You can meet the group leader at Gate No. 7 of Kashmere Gate Metro Station.

Please note that if you are based out of any other city which comes on the route, we can pick you up. Please get in touch with us for route, and scheduling your pick-up/ drop. If you are based in a city outside Delhi, please get in touch with us to help you with the route & pick-up point. We may also be able to connect you with other participants from your starting city.

Day 5: Arrival in Delhi & Good bye

We are supposed to reach Delhi by 5 AM as per the schedule, but still keep some buffer time in hand if you have an onward journey on the same day. Because of uncertain traffic and road conditions that might happen sometimes, we can’t predict the exact time. Better to check with us while booking your return journey tickets.
We will drop the participants as per the respective pick-up points, exchange warm hugs, and goodbyes until we meet again.

Please note that if Transforming Travels isn’t able to execute the trip because of any covid regulations that directly affect the itinerary, then we will either reschedule the trip, refund, or give you the credit for the amount you paid, but your money won’t be lost at all. As it’s subjective to the situation, we will also take a call as per the situation.

The group size will be limited to a maximum of 21 people: 20 participants + 1 facilitator and a minimum of 6 people: 5 participants + 1 facilitator.
We will start from Delhi on Day 1 at 11 PM. We will start at 11 PM from ISBT Kashmere Gate. You can meet the group leader at the exit of Gate No. 7 of Kashmere Gate Metro Station.
We are expected to reach back to Delhi on Day 5 at around 5 AM. However, we cannot guarantee the exact time of arrival due to unforeseen circumstances. We always follow the timelines and put our maximum effort to reach at the given time, and almost all our trips start/ end on time.
We suggest you carry some energy bars/snacks or dry fruits which you can have while trekking.
We don’t distribute any packed water during this trip. Water is very clean in Uttarakhand and hence, we recommend everyone to get water bottles which can be refilled. You can keep refilling them from local sources throughout the journey. Why add non-biodegradable waste to the environment if we can easily manage it without doing so?
Please note that we might leave reach place earlier than check-in time. Hence, please be patient and enjoy the views and breakfast until check-in is given. We also don’t want to start this trip a little late because Delhi Metro closes after 11:30 PM and many participants may not feel safe arriving at the pickup point.
Please keep some munchies/ refreshments for Day 4. Our dinner could be mismanaged if the Moila Bugyal trek isn’t finished on time.
