Can you recall how often you have randomly clicked on a celebrity’s Instagram story and seen them chilling and posing in the tempting cyan-blue waters of the Maldives beaches? Just the name of this South-Asian country brings a vivid picture of exquisite resorts, clear ocean and tropical trees to the mind. Maybe you have also imagined yourself amidst the scene, sipping an ice-cold margarita in your best beachwear and a straw sun hat. Well, glad to tell you that you are not the only one! The beauty of Maldives is so alluring that it makes every person fantasize about waking up to a spectacle of unceasing blue ocean, swimming in the refreshingly cool waters and watching the sunset burst the sky into a hundred shades of pink and orange, which gets reflected on the oceanic surface. What if I tell you that after travelling to the Maldives, you are in for a lot many surprising and exhilarating experiences?

Maldives is an island country in the Indian Ocean, lying southwest of India and Sri Lanka. Many ethnicities influence their culture, given the land’s rich history of settlements. The official language is Dhivehi, which is an Indo-Aryan language resembling Sri Lanka’s Sinhala Language.

Being an archipelago, Maldives takes immense pride in its diverse aquatic life. Colourful corals look like paint smeared on the sea bed. There are over 2000 species of fish, some of which are Blacktip reef shark, eagle ray, Oriental Sweetlips and moray eels. The favourite tourist’s activities are scuba diving, snorkelling, dolphin watching, freediving with nurse sharks and sunset fishing in the ocean since they offer a memorable chance to travellers to glimpse into the unknown sea world. While you enjoy these exciting adventures, the cooks of the land prepare the mouth-watering, traditional cuisine of Maldives for you. It is an elaborate creation that mainly incorporates coconuts, fish and starch. The mas riha (fish curry) with rice and rihaakuru (traditional tuna-based sauce) or a tall glass of coconut milk will leave even the most uptight people licking their plates clean.

Be it exploring the depths of Banana Reef, strolling through the beautiful city of Male or sunbathing amid the scenic beauty of Baros Island, Maldives is jampacked with soul-pleasing and remarkable places. The island lives up to the hype more than expected, and you will surely have a great time knowing that you deserve every last bit of it.
